Forever II returns to the maternal subject of Forever with a shift in chromatic register. The warm yellow ground of the earlier work gives way here to the cooler blues of Adekunle's signature palette, and the figures, while still closely intertwined, are rendered with a degree of formal ambiguity that gives the composition an open, unresolved quality. Working in oil and oil pastel on canvas at 46.5 x 58 inches, Adekunle achieves a surface of considerable luminosity, the pastel medium contributing a softness to the paint layer that the acrylic works do not share. Forever II was created in 2025 and is the most recent Gbemileke Adekunle work in the collection. It reflects the continued development of a mature figurative practice that has established Adekunle as one of the significant Nigerian painters of his generation.
